IAC Training
On January 7, 2007 the Transportation Security Administration implemented the Indirect Air Carrier Standard Security Program (IACSSP), applicable to Freight Forwarders and Consolidators. This Program is now required for over 4,000 U.S. companies. The IAC program requires basic security training for direct employees and contractors and advanced Security Coordinator Training for management and other leadership positions.
The IAC Program includes a comprehensive requirement on the acceptance, handling and screening of known and unknown cargo and the requirements for placing these shipments on passenger and cargo air carriers. The program also addresses your facility and vehicle security.
Personnel handling cargo destined for both a cargo and passenger airline must possess a Security Threat Assessment clearance and have full understanding of cargo security. Each company holding an IAC certificate must maintain a comprehensive and up to date IAC management system.
The new 9-11 Security bill passed in August of 2007 will require that all Known shipper cargo tendered to a Passenger Carrier to be fully inspected prior to transport. This will be a major obstacle for Indirect Air Carriers. New TSA Programs are being rolled out that will assist Indirect Air Carriers in expediting their shipments without Delay. The Certified Shipper program and Certified Cargo Inspection Program are presently in the pilot stage but will be fully implemented in 2009.
